We asked Chef Sandra some questions about her love for cooking, get to know her more:
What’s your first cooking memory?
The first memory I had of me cooking was suggesting I bake crepes for a bake sale at school. I had my friends come over and we made about 500 crepes to be sold for charity the next day. It was incredible because we were so young.
When did you know you wanted to be a Chef?
Technically I am not a chef but more of a food lover who likes to perfect foods and teach others along the way. So three years ago, I was working as a part-timer at my old job and in my free time I would bake something and take it with me to work the next day. Every afternoon, people would pass by my desk to try what I brought and that’s probably about the time when I decided that corporate life was not for me. I would rather experiment (play) in the kitchen, feed my loved ones (and more), and teach people how to do the same.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing the look on people’s faces. Food connects people in such a strong way.
What are the top cooking tips you’ve learned from your mother?
My mother is a fan of healthy cooking, and I learned that from her, how to make healthy dishes with a little compromise on taste.
If you had just one wish, what would it be?
I wish I went to cooking school back when I was younger!
What’s the funniest moment you’ve had in a kitchen?
The funniest moment was when I added salt to my cream instead of sugar. Now I taste it before adding, I’ll never make that mistake again, you should have seen people’s reactions!
Best moment of your career so far?
When people make my recipes and thank me for metaphorically being in the kitchen with them, that truly makes my day every single time.
Being a chef and a parent, what message would you like to share with your children?
As a parent, I teach them that everything they make at home will taste better and be better for them because they know the ingredients that they are using in the food.
